NJEDENGWA SPECIAL FOREST – DODOMA
Location: Njedengwa Area, Dodoma City, Tanzania
Area: 25 hectares
In the 21st century, climate change, land degradation, reduced rainfall,
and loss of natural vegetation have significantly affected communities worldwide,
including Tanzania.
Dodoma, our national capital, is rapidly growing economically and socially.
This growth must be balanced with strong environmental conservation efforts.
HABARI CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION (HCO) has initiated an ambitious project
to establish a Special Forest in Njedengwa, covering 25 hectares within
the Dodoma Urban Area.
Project Objectives
- Conserve and protect biodiversity, including native plant and animal species
- Mitigate climate change through carbon sequestration
- Create eco-tourism opportunities and environmental education zones
- Promote better health and well-being for Dodoma residents
Project Components
- Planting over 20,000 drought-resistant and indigenous trees
- Development of eco-trails for walking and education
- Designated green zones for leisure and sports
- Rainwater harvesting systems for irrigation
- Community engagement and sustainability programs
